Chapter Five Walkthrough[]

Checkpoint 1[]

After escaping the ordeals of the crypt, you find yourself outdoors once more, though the atmosphere is less than desirable: a murky swamp.

Head out of the crypt's exit and follow the only path onward. The first checkpoint shack will come into view.

Once you enter the checkpoint, exit thrоugh the back door and follow the wooden pathway through the swamp until you reach a locked gate. Keep note of the location, as we'll be back here shortly. Continue past the gate until you see a vast expanse of land and water, with a warning sign.

Crocodile Swamp[]

Welcome to the crocodile swamp! Yes, it's exactly how it sounds. Somewhere in this mucky swamp is a crocodile slithering through the water. But never fear, as there are bits of wood around the water that you can stand on, as well as land, which protects you from the crocodile.

The first thing to do is to keep slightly left of the entrance so you're on land and walk to the watchtower ahead. The right side of the watchtower has a ramp to climb up, and when you enter it, you'll see a light switch to brighten up your path ahead.

One you flip the switch, head out of the watchtower down the stairs, and follow the lights across the way to the crowbar building.

Step into the water, but if you hear a growl and your screen shakes, immediately step back onto land, as you've aggro'd the crocodile. If you look closely around the water you should see it, but even if you don't, if you wait about 10 seconds you should be safe to continue. Walk past the rowboat and bits of wood toward the light in the distance, and you'll reach a building that has a crowbar that you will need.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (6)

Once you've got the crowbar, step out of the doorway, down the stairs, and on the right side of the walkway you can see some land with a burning wagon. Since you're on land, you're safe from the crocodile, so continue on past the wagon until your land runs out. Hop on the raft in the water, and go toward the next light across the way to reach the next building.

I suppose you know why you need the crowbar at this point. Once you pry the wood off the door, open the door and wait for it to fully open. Once it's opened, go inside, and there's a shining key on the far mattress to the left. After picking up the key, you can backtrack along the same path (or, if you're feeling brave, wade straight across through the swamp) back to the watchtower. The key opens a metal container that secured some bolt cutters. Return to the locked gate we found earlier, cut the locks, and head on through.

Leech Field & Checkpoint 2[]

Welcome to the Leech Field! Why is it called that, you may ask? No reason. There are leeches! All you have to do here is W key straight through the field, and when you hear sound to your left/right, go the opposite direction. Ideally you should stay on the wooden walkways when you can, but it's not necessary. If you do stay on the wood walkways, then when you reach a fork in the path, keep to the left for your best chance of survival. The leeches will make loud, disgusting squelching noises that will tell you when they're close, so listen out for where they are, and you can plan out your path from there.

Your destination is this bit of fence that has a lantern hanging above an open hole.

Walk through it, and follow the muddy path upward. Be warned, leeches can spawn on this path as well. You're so close to this checkpoint, so don't choke!

You might notice a problem here: there's a fence! Don't worry, take the other unexplored path to visit the sluice gates, then continue on down the path to the pig pen. Inside the pig pen are boat keys that you'll need later, then next to the pig pen is the checkpoint that you can take. Grab the checkpoint, then turn back around for the next section: parkour.

Electric Parkour[]

Outside the checkpoint building is electrified water with stacks of boxes, crates, planks of wood, a fallen tree, and other odds and ends that make up a parkour course. Fall in the water, and you'll immediately lose a life. On the other side of the course is a little shack with a fusebox, which will shut off the electricity. Head back out, open the sluice gate, and proceed to the next section!

Swamp Dog Village[]

Past the sluice gate you'll find the third checkpoint building.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (11)

Go through the building and you'll see a shack and watchtower behind it. Enter the shack to pick up the first fuel can, then turn back around and go through the checkpoint again. Keep to the right to enter the swamp dog village, and the first shack you find following the wall will contain the first sluice gate part.

Once you pick up this part, continue following the wall to the right. You'll reach the entrance of the mosquito village. It has a checkpoint in the watchtower to the left up the stairs. Take it if you'd like, otherwise walk past the entrance to continue following the wall in the swamp dog village. You'll soon reach a small puddle with a barrel floating in it. The shack to the right contains the second sluice gate part.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (13)

After picking up this part, head outside and the closest building in front of you past the floating barrel will have the second can of gasoline, which is the last can in this village.

Head back out, and we'll employ the same method earlier: follow the right wall until you reach a white shack, which contains the final sluice gate part in this section. You should now have three small parts.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (14)

Once you've picked up this part, you can return to the entrance of the mosquito village we found earlier.

Mosquito Village[]

Welcome to the Mosquito Village! I'm sure by now that you get the idea on why these areas are named the way they are. On either side of you as you enter the village are watchtowers. The watchtower on the left is a checkpoint that you can grab if you haven't already, and the one on the right has a giant sluice gate part on the bed.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (15)

If you're daring, you can skip the checkpoint to save yourself a minute or two later on, though at the cost of losing some time walking back to the village if you die. The mosquito is averse to the light from your flashlight, so shine your light on it to keep it at bay if you hear it buzzing toward you.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (16)

After getting the giant sluice gate part in the building on the right, walk down to the wooden walkway below and go straight between a boat and ruined building. The walkway will descend into water, but it leads to a giant building across the way. If you've walked pretty far and haven't gone up some stairs to the building, you turned left or right when leaving the watchtowers instead of going straight.

Go up the stairs, and the second giant sluice gate part will be on the floor behind a shelf.

Head out the building back to the wooden walkway you were just on and start heading right. The first building on your right that's intact (has walls, is covered, and a door) has the third can of gasoline inside under the bed.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (18)

Near the end of the wooden walkway you'll see a red building. Go inside and the final gasoline can will be on a shelf to your left. Exit the building and continue on the same path to the end of the wooden walkway, and the giant building on your left has the third and final sluice gate part.

Sluice Gate Repair[]

Double-check that you have all 4 cans of gasoline, 6 sluice gate parts, and the boat keys. Once you've got them all, go through leech field again (you can open the sluice gate across from the big building that had the final part), then continue through leech field until you pass the second checkpoint building again.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (19)

Repair the two sections of the sluice gate here and close them both, then go on the opposite side to repair the third sluice gate off on its own and open it. It may take 15-20 seconds before the final sluice gate can be opened, as you have to wait for the other two to close.

Once you've done this, return to the two sluice gates you repaired earlier and walk down the stairs. Once the water's been drained, walk down the new path under the sluice gate.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (20)

You'll reach a ruined building with a walkway you can walk up. Go through the building and follow the path until you see a light in the distance, which is the final checkpoint.

Sawmill[]

Welcome to the final section of chapter 5! This last section is broken up into two sections. First, make sure you go to the small covered structure just before reaching the sawmill platform to get that checkpoint.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (21)

You don't want to enter the sawmill quite yet; instead, stake out outside it a good distance away. You'll soon see a huge creature patrolling around and inside the sawmill called a Swamp dog (specifically, this one has been dubbed the "mama" swamp dog).

Chapter Five Walkthrough (22)

The swamp dogs are near-deaf, so as long as you aren't stepping in its line of sight, you'll be safe from it.

This swamp dog has a set patrol path, and once you see it heading from the left to the right, and then from right to left a second time inside the doorway, that's your cue to enter the building. Head to the left first slowly and walk along the left side of the building. Grab the lever stick that's sitting on a crate, then turn and run diagonally across the building.

Your destination is to the right of the entrance: a workbench that has the second lever stick on it, at the bottom of the staircase.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (24)

Go up the stairs and push the logs out of the way, allowing you to place the lever sticks in the console. Open the log clamps by pulling the lever beside the clamps, then use the console to position a log in the clamps.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (25)

Pull the lever to close the clamps, then interact with the log to push it down into the saw. Once the log has been cut, interact with it to place it over the large gap in the floor.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (26)

After crossing the log and heading outside, you've reached your destination throughout this whole chapter: the docks. As you look over the railway, you'll see you're not quite done yet. There's a bunch of crates, fishing/crabbing cages, fish barrels, and other odds and ends scattered across the platform, and the sharp-eyed among you will notice a swamp dog patrolling the area. This is a stealth-based section, so watch its path closely and choose the best course of action to get past it. Your objective is the right side of the platform where there's a gate leading to the docks.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (27)

If you want easy-mode, wait until the swamp dog is on the left side of the platform, then run straight down the middle and hang a right to get to the open gate. At the end of the docks is a boat. Fill it with fuel in the back right corner of the boat, turn the keys at the wheel, and you're done! After the loading screen, you'll be sent to Asset Testing Island.

Chapter Five Walkthrough (28)

If this is your first time here, welcome! This is where the devs have placed various assets used throughout the game that you can explore. Not all assets will be found here, nor will monsters be found here. If you've been here before, nothing new has been added this time around, but take a look around anyway! You might find something you haven't noticed during your earlier visits.
