Top 20 things to do and attractions in San Gil (2024)

Sam's VIP Hostel San Gil offers a laid-back atmosphere with simple dorms and comfortable private rooms. The hostel features two well-equipped kitchens, a lovely swimming pool, and even a sauna for guests to enjoy. Additionally, there is an on-site tour company to assist with organizing activities. Guests have praised the efficient check-in process and the amazing amenities such as jacuzzis in some rooms.

I really enjoyed my stay and I can totally recommend to stay there. The staff is super friendly and always asked if everything is fine. They even booked a bus ticket for me. The hostel is located directly at the main square (the dorms are on the other side so it is very quite) and you can go out in the night and be safe. The kitchen was very big and clean and the rooms as well. I checked out few other hostels in San Gil but this is the best hostel and for a really good price.

100% the best hostel in San Gil. The staff are unbelievably friendly and helpful. The whole hostel gives off a vibe of living in a flat with some really cool and chill people. The kitchens are really well equipped which makes cooking at home really easy and enjoyable. On top of that the living area offers a place for you to eat where you can watch TV, chill by yourself and or socialize with others. The swimming pool area is beautiful. The pool is kept really clean and the sauna is a great bonus. It's a perfect place to chill, play around in the pool and catch some sun, or just read a book. All the rooms are clean and the cleaning staff are super friendly, they offer you fresh towels and sheets everyday. Furthermore the hostel offers a range of activities in the San Gil, such as whitewater rafting abseiling and bungee jumping. I could not recommend this hostel more if you're staying in San Gil, don't even bother looking at other hostels and go to this one.

Sam's VIP Hostel is a winner. It has a fabulous location just off the main plaza. The private room on the back side is quiet. Every thing is clean, clean, clean. A quick dip in the small pool will cool you down. Very nice full functioning kitchen. Great free coffee. Fabulous staff. Shout out to Daniela and Milena. Other guests really nice. Great butcher shop at the end of the block for the most amazing chorizos. We would come back to San Gill to stay at this hostel.

In short: really well-located hostel with one of the best kitchens we've encountered in the past 6 months. There could definitely be moreatmosphere, but you can easily create it yourself with the other guests on the terrace. But -above all- Daniella really made our stay here. She's such a nice receptionist/host! Amazing personality & always down to giverecommendations/have a chat.Overall would really recommend: very good value for your money!

I had a lovely time at Sam’s VIP hostel. Located right at the main square of the town, it couldn’t have been better. The staff - Vanessa and Daniela (I don’t remember the other names) are amazing. Any question you might have, they will answer happily and accordingly. Thanks to them, i felt right at home! Furthermore, the hostel was very clean and safe (lockers + garage + camera’s). It also has a pool and sauna!! Next time i visit San Gil,I know where to go

Sams VIP is an amazing hostel. The rooms are clean and spacious, the prices are very reasonable, and the location is right smack in the middle of town. They also have a cute little pool right on the top of the building where you can relax and look out on the town. Though the thing that I find to be best about the hostel is the staff…they are so friendly and so accommodating. I met a total of 5 while I was there and they all wanted to make sure I had everything I needed, that I could do all the activities I wanted to do, how to get from one place to another, and even helped me practice my Spanish. I’ll be back!

Cant speak highly enough of Sams VIP!!! This place has it all. Best location right on the main plaza with a balcony that looks over the square. The staff and Sam himself are more that accommodating with every question I had. It felt like a home away from home! Ended up staying for a full week. :)

Nice hostel for sure, it has a nice aesthetic and it's pretty clean. The internet is really good if you have to work. The one thing I found annoying is that in order to enter the hostel you have to ring the bell and sometimes it takes a long time for the staff to open the door, which sometimes is problematic when you're carrying heavy stuff or are exhausted and just want to get in or maybe when you have a bathroom emergency. So be prepared for waiting. Another thing I found annoying was that one of the receptionists is constantly on her phone doing phone calls or watching videos and really ignores you when you have a question or so.

We had such a nice time here at the hostel! The location is perfect, there is a great balcony and common area, a well equipped kitchen, a pool and even a sauna. We had a 4-dorm bedroom which was clean and had a big window. But most importantly Vanessa and Daniela were so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed and could do all the activities. And you can wash your laundry as well here - what do you want more? ;)

Nice hostel right on the main square in San Gil.The receptionist was very friendly and helpful (tips on the different activities, laundry service, allowed me to store the bags on the last day).Nice common areas and little pool on the roof.Potential improvements: I didn't have a key for my room and to enter the building you always have to ring the bell (quite annoying), the rooms (at least the dorms) are quite dark (no windows).

This was one of my first hostel experiences, and it could not have been better! Vanessa and Daniela (and the other staff, though I forgot their names) were wonderful and made me feel very welcomed. I was provided with all the information about the adventure activities, and I barely had to organise anything. The hostel is in a great location, and the pool is a great addition to relax and meet other travelers. I can’t recommend this place more. I hope to return to Sam’s VIP soon!!

Amazing hostel in the best location, balcony overlooks the main square and is great to sit and eat there at night. The staff here are amazing and really make this place what it is! Daniela the receptionist is so friendly and funny and will help you with anything, as well as Vannessa. They are always around and the hostel is more like a home you can get settled in. The kitchen is big, clean, fully equipped and good to cook in. The pool terrace is also great. Stayed here and came back here the next time I visited San Hill, always a great experience!

One of those places that makes a town hard to leave. The team is incredibly helpful and kind - when we asked a question we came to trust that they would help us better than we could help ourselves.Rooms are clean, great common areas for meeting other travelers, perfect location, etc.

The service here goes above and BEYOND. The hostel provides all the adventure activities San Gil offers and they take care of everything from pick up, paperwork, and advice on how to have the best experience in your activities. The staff is always incredibly friendly, not just to the point of providing a service but also to chat and receive guidance on how to best experience the trip.

This hostel Reinvent the concept VFM! Everything in this hostel was really good. Prime location, good service, nice pool and sauna with view to the city. rooms and facilities were really nice and clean. The kitchen is one of the best you could find and stuff was really nice and attentive. If you go to San Gil do your self a favor and stay in this place you will not regret!

Old school hostel where everybody gathers on the rooftop patio at night to discuss the day’s adventures and plan tomorrow’s. This sort of place has gone out of style since COVID, which is a real shame. However, it was only because of Mileyn, one of the reception people, that the place worked. She spoke English, was enthusiastic about getting people to go on adventures, and arranged a driver to the BGA airport (if you’re considering flying, look at the new local airport’s M/F flights)Without Mileyn the place would be 3 or 4 stars because:-cold showers-hard beds-no group activities-loudIt’s still by far the best and most social hostel in town so you should stay here.

Really amazing spot! The location is exactly where you want to be in San Gil. We had a private room that was a great size and we even had an AC which was a nice surprise.

Got moved from the original hostel I booked (La Mansion) to here without any explanation.Pleasant hostel, staff are very friendly and helpful. Coffee served all day and they have a pool and sauna but can’t comment on those as I didn’t use them. The 4 bed mixed dorm room was ok, beds a bit firm and only had fan working as didn’t know how to work the AC so room did get fairly hot. The kitchens could do with a bit of a tidy but that’s like most hostels anyway. Can use desk to book tours with the hostel which is handy. Overall good hostel with welcoming staff.
