The first Capstone Dungeon you’ll encounter in Diablo 4 is at the Cathedral of Light in Kyovashad. This can be accessed after completing the main campaign, has a recommended level of 50+, and is only accessible on World Tier 2.

In order to find the start of this Dungeon, you’ll need to head inside the Cathedral of Light and find a large door on the left side. This will open up to let you inside the Dungeon. Below, we’ll walk you through it and how to beat the bosses you’ll encounter within.

As you first enter the Dungeon, you’ll be tasked with collecting Animus from the Revenant Knights. There are five in total you’ll have to seek out around the Hallowed Cloister, and they can be very tricky to take down when you encounter them.

This is mainly because they teleport around, and oftentimes like to teleport right on top of you to crush you. Try and be quick dodging around them and utilizing any AOE attack you have (or ranged attack) to give yourself some distance. They can overwhelm you quite quickly with their other Knight friends as well, so try and clear the room of smaller enemies first before taking the Revenant Knights on.

Once you’ve defeated all five, head to the Animus Urn and deposit what you’ve collected. This will unlock the next part of the Dungeon, where you’ll need to travel to the High Council Court. You’ll know you’re close when you find a Healing Well just outside of it.

How to Defeat the High Council

This boss fight will have you going up against four enemies at once: the Sacred Physician, the Grand Inquisitor, the Lord Commander, and the Devoted Champion. This is the High Council, and they’re really not thrilled that you’re here.

The best way to approach this fight is to pick them off one by one. Since the Sacred Physician can resurrect other High Council members that you kill off, it’s advised that you go for him first. Alongside healing his companions, he’ll also fire projectiles at you and create holy beams that appear on the floor. These will bring down bolts that can deal a lot of damage to you if you get caught in them, so try and move away from them when they appear.

The next enemy to focus on should be the Grand Inquisitor, who has a lightning attack that you’ll need to keep an eye out for. It’s an AOE attack that’s visible when he slams his staff into the ground, creating a damaging circle of lightning around him.

Next in line should be the Devoted Champion, who has very standard attacks with his spear but does have a shield that he makes good use of. He also has less health than the Lord Commander, so clearing him out before him will help you to focus on the big guy last.

And finally: the Lord Commander. He has a killer swing (which he’ll do in threes), so try and keep some distance. If you have ranged attacks, they’ll work well here, otherwise dodging into him and behind him while using an AOE attack can be really helpful, too. Since he’s so large, he has a tough time turning around to you if you move quickly around him. He also has a holy attack, where he’ll lift up his mace and slam it down on the ground, creating five lines that come out from it. When you see these form, try to dodge to the side as quickly as possible.

With this fight, take your time running around the arena and dealing damage to him. He may move slowly, but he does have quite a bit of health that you’ll need to chip away at, so patience is important in the last part of this fight.

However, you can’t relax just yet with the big bosses down, as a mob of very angry clerics will appear. They’re a very standard group of enemies, so take them down how you normally would, and once they’re all down, a portal will appear at the end of this room to take you to the next location.

This will take you to the Reliquary of Erudition, where you’ll be tasked with defeating all of the enemies in here. It’s quite a large area, so be prepared to clear out several rooms.

Once they’re all down, an entryway will open that leads you to the final boss of this Dungeon… The Curator.

How to Beat The Curator

The Curator is an incredibly tough Skeleton boss, so definitely make good use of Elixirs (like the Elixir of Undead-Slaying, which is geared towards Skeletons) before heading in.

At the beginning of the fight, you’ll have a very brief moment of time to unload as much damage as possible on him before he gets going. Take advantage of this moment. Use all of your big attacks to try and make a good dent in his health bar, then dodge away. As he gets started, he’ll try to take big swings at you with his scythe and fire off ghostly projectiles at you.

If you’re a melee player, this will be a bit difficult as you’ll need to time your attacks by finding a good opening between swings. And if you’re a ranged player, make good use of the arena to put space between the two of you but dodge away from the projectiles.

Another attack that he has involves six green lines that form out from his feet to cover half of the arena. Try and quickly move away from these into a safe spot until they disappear. He’ll use this attack in a different way later on in the fight as well as he teleports around the room. When he moves, there won’t be as many lines (three this time), but you’ll want to dodge out of their way just the same.

He’ll also summon additional skeletons throughout the fight as well. These are much smaller enemies, like ones you’d encounter normally, but if too many pop up it can make the boss fight much more overwhelming. Take them out first before turning your attention back to The Curator. During this time, more projectiles will pop up as well, so you’ll need to dodge around them as they move across the arena.

He’ll also summon green cyclones (which slow you down and drain your health) and create bone walls. Much like the green lines from earlier, dodge out of the cyclones’ way as much as possible and try to avoid the bone walls rather than take them down. This is because he can explode them around you, so it's better to keep your distance.

Defeating him will complete the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon, unlocking World Tier 3 or Nightmare Difficulty. On World Tier 3, Sacred and Unique items drop, Nightmare Sigils drop that unseal Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides appear across Sanctuary, and Champion monsters with damage resistance auras appear. Alongside that, monsters give 100% increased Experience, drop 15% more Gold, and overcome 20% Resistance.
